Interactivos? ‘10: Neighbourhood Science Medialab Prado, Madrid, Spain

I had the good fortune of being involved as a collaborator at 'Interactivos? '10 in Madrid earlier this year. This was an amazing experience for me and opened my mind to a world of opportunity between architecture, new media and interactive design.

Interactivos’ was a three-week seminar and group workshop that explored the topic of ‘Neighbourhood Science’ at Medialab Prado, a media lab in Madrid, Spain.

I participated as a collaborator in the project VirtualUrban lead by Rory Solomon. VirtualUrban was an exploration of the relationship between the ‘real’ and the ‘virtual’ in public urban space. The project combined public space with virtual 3D forms in the context of an interactive installation within a public plaza of Madrid. The content of the installation was developed through a community workshop process to identify the unseen qualities of the neighbourhood.

During the installation the viewer has the opportunity to build and navigate a unique 3D virtual world. In this context, the viewer is able to reinterpret both the seen and unseen qualities of their neighbourhood.
